In the product description, they claim that these are "Thick layered blackout curtains blocks out light for a better nights sleep." That is not the case. They are nice looking but I got these, primarily, for the blackout effect. As for the "thermal" part...I don't notice a difference there, either. I've had blackout/thermal curtains before (from Wal-Mart) and those were cheaper and WORKED. These are definitely prettier...but don't do the job.
